Nigeria is painted with the same paintbrush as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia by mainstream media, religious leaders who pedal fear in exchange for riches, and misinformed Nigerians in the Diaspora who trumpet everything wrong with Nigeria.
It is assumed that America can effectively fight terrorism within their borders, yet there was the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, Boston Marathon bombing and several mass murders of children in schools. Gov. Rick Perry high on Texas tea announced how prepared Texas was to effectively fight Ebola yet many costly mistakes were made.
I have no doubt that Nigerians are exceptional professionals and the men and women of Nigerian Armed and Security forces are no different. What we have always lacked is real leadership. Nigerian politicians spent years ignoring the threat of Boko Haram due in part to a mix of ignorance and arrogance in Aso Rock and the fact that Boko Haram was busy terrorizing the poor masses, the same people they claim to be fighting for.
Due to greedy politicians and religious leaders aiding politicians in money laundry the Nigerian Army are sent into gunfights with knives. Aso Rock and Ayo Oritsejafor the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) were snatched twice flying $15m in cash stashed in private jets belonging to Ayo Oritsejafor to allegedly purchase arms from unlicensed South African arms dealers. This is tantamount to the White House sending Creflo Dollar to Canada to purchase weapons from unlicensed Canadian arms dealers to fight terrorism in America.
It is safe to assume that if the South African government stumbled upon two deals there is a strong probability that some got through. The Presidency has given no explanation to the citizens of Nigeria about these shadow arms deals neither has our honorable Senators called for a hearing.
Boko Haram was never or will ever be a match for the Nigerian Army even with crooked politicians and religious leaders playing greedy politics with the security of the country. The Presidency announced a ceasefire and agreement to release the captured girls was reached with Boko Haram. I am not certain Boko Haram was in on this phantom deal and what are the odds that this is politics ahead of next year’s elections, it is just a new game in Nigerian politics from the American playbook.

Nigerians once again showed exceptional professionalism in Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh and nurse Obi Justina Ejelonu during the first case of Ebola in Nigeria introduced by a Liberian citizen. Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh and nurse Obi Justina Ejelonu heroically battled and contained a virus they had no experience treating in the process giving up their lives, while the religious leaders were preaching a hostile gospel.

The brave doctors and nurses in Lagos, the epicenter of the Ebola crisis in Nigeria have been and continue to fight for a better health system and working conditions. You see our politicians would choose to die in a hospital in India, America, Spain, London or Ghana than seek treatment in a hospital in Nigeria. Ogbeni Ayotunde

Any body can look good sitting on a sofa like that, but to what is best for a nation you need much more than expensive furniture. I much more admire the amazing Dr. and Nurse hailed at the end of the post. They will continue to shine as beacons of courage strength and love to those privileged enough to hear of their works. Okay, having now read your most excellent post, I agree wholeheartedly with it, you were so definitely spot-on in regards to the B.S. propaganda spread by the American media in regards to how “effectively” the threat of terrorism is not about to ‘darken’ these here united states (my ass, talk to the people in Oklahoma City, Boston or for that matter New Orleans) we (and yeah for now I will self identify as American) always think that crap like that doesn’t – and won’t – happen here in the home of the free and land of the brave, where all men are created equal and no one has a reason to complain (talk to the good folk in Ferguson and see what you get in that regard) Nigeria being almost 100% black (there are anglo-africans and Pakistani-Africans and sino-africans there so “almost 100% black) has been and will always be in the eyes of the American media and government as, well African and therefore of absolutely no importance, if some terrorist want to kidnap schoolgirls, or blow up a shopping mall, more power to them – (creflo dollar??? really, that’s low bro) – there will never be a proper explanation regarding the “arms purchase” of course not, “money for nothing get your kicks for free” if only Boko Harem had a Swiss bank account. as long as the Nigerian army does not – god I hope they never do – ask for American military aid (hello John McCain) well, in spite of the governments handling of the ‘affair’ eventually money will change hands (it always ends when somebody gets paid – straight cash homey – ) will Boko harem become yet another chapter in Nigerian history, sad as it may be to the people suffering their idiocy

Adadevoh and nurse Ejelonu and the other unnamed medical professionals doing unquestioned due diligence and care there in Lagos and other parts of the country, in the face of the denials proffered by the (so-called) religious leaders there (and here) and in spite of sub-standard (in some respects) medical facilities, (is it any wonder the so-called leaders seek medical care elsewhere). so yeah, bravery has no colour, nor a geographical border, unfortunately, neither does stupidity.

Thank you brother for stating the reality so vividly, absolutely on point. It is a small world I grew up in the same city (Ibadan) and know the Adadevoh family. Dr. Adadevoh’s mother is my cousin’s godmother, so in a way it strikes home. In my estimation Goodluck Jonathan is not the sharpest tool in the toolbox, dude has lived on incredible luck including the luck of having a few brilliant and brave minds in his cabinet, people like Ngozi Okonji-Iweala who put a stop to the oil subsidy scam which made a few Nigerians billionaires they know who they are, for that fight she got her mother kidnapped for ransom. She is now proposing to introduce a social security system in Nigeria.
Goodluck’s information minister a few years back urged Nigerian news association at their conference to ignore Boko Haram that they were just seeking attention, imagine telling the press to look away while terrorism is engulfing the country. Then there was the phase when they declared Boko Haram was managed by top government officials he was too scared to take on, now it is an inter party fun game each party accusing the other of being Boko Haram. During the oil subsidy era he could not take on the power oil subsidy cabal, the same blokes that kidnapped Ngozi’s mom. It is not by accident they took the fight out of the military and it remains to be seen if Goodluck has more that just luck working on his side.
