First, I just wanna thank all of you for checking out my videos and posts about the 10th anniversary of #TheSyberspaceSocial. I’ve been having fun shooting these and even though I’m not great at it, I forgot how much I enjoy playing piano/keys! And I truly enjoy giving you a glimpse into my silly ways! As you can see, I don’t take myself too seriously most times!
Track 10 – Drop That – #SyberTales
I wrote this on keys back in 2003 I think. But took a long time to actually record it. I’d laid a demo of it somewhere but I knew that I would need special cats to play this one because in my head, it was WAY funkier than my execution. Enter James Poyser, Jae Deal, Tyler Coomes and Dave Foreman who all happened to be in town at the same time! They met me at Barry Paul Studios in North Hollywood and completely laid this song OUT! Jae Deal is one of the best bassists I know, but on synth bass he is so sick it’s frightening. Dave Foreman is mean on rhythm guitar and he changed a couple of my chords in the b-section by accident, but his accidents were dope so I kept them and had everyone play around what he played. Tyler Coomes had been down with me for a while on drums and when it comes to the hybrid of drum programming and live playing, he’s one of the best. And James Poyser, well if you don’t know who he is… Please, just Google all of these names or search them on AllMusic.com and have your minds blown!
This is one of a few songs that I produced on this album. People sometimes forget that I’m also a producer! Yep, I wear many hats. ☺
So I compiled this playlist of 100 music videos and short documentaries I directed, edited and produced over the years featuring artists like Sy Smith, The Wailers, Afi Soul, Bilal, John Forte, Fantan Mojah, Anthony B, Proverbs, Geneva Trotman, Union Street Band, W. Ellington Felton, Black Alley, Deborah Bond, Alison Carney, Strykers Posse, STORM, Rah Dah God, John Paul, Christylez Bacon, Chopteeth, Lagos Mosquito and so much more . You’re number one if you choose this. – @OgbeniAyotunde
