Ibadan (Yoruba: Ìbàdàn or fully Ìlú Ẹ̀bá-Ọ̀dàn, the town at the junction of the savannah and the forest) is the capital city of Oyo State and the third largest metropolitan area in Nigeria, after Lagos and Kano, with a population of 1,338,659 according to the 2006 census. Ibadan is also the largest metropolitan geographical area. At Nigerian independence, Ibadan was the largest and most populous city in the country and the third in Africa after Cairo and Johannesburg.

Thank you for the explanation of Ibadan – the place between savannah and forest. To know the meaning of names is very important I find.

You are welcome Tish. Names tell the story and very important in the Yoruba culture. You can pretty much tell ones story through their names i.e twins the first out is Taiwo and the second out is Kehinde, child born after twins is called Idowu and the one after is Alaba. A child born feet first is called Ige, a child born with locks is a Dada. My name Ayotunde means I have being in this world before and am returning.
