AU chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma

The very country [where] our people were taken as slaves . . . has now decided to ban refugees from some of our countries,” outgoing AU Commission chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told about 37 heads of state and leaders from across the continent.

I respectfully disagree with madam chairwoman. Why do Africans need to be refugees in America? Yes they captured and took us away as slaves to build America but what have we done as Africans to build Africa now that we are no longer slaves, or are we still slaves?

African governments continue to make refugees of their people so they can be carted away to America and Europe as refugee slaves to do the backbreaking work of building their country.

African leaders should take a lesson from Nigeria which has a long standing record of championing peace and freedom in Africa, and was in the forefront fighting against apartheid in South Africa and Rhodesia now Zimbabwe.

Nigeria helped bring peace and took in refugees from war thorn Liberia and Sierra Leone. America did not resettle any refugees from Liberia their only colony in Africa.

Nigeria has taken in refugees from Ghana and Chad, along with Senegal helped democracy prevail in Gambia in the recent swearing in of newly elected President Adama Barrow

The African Union should look within Africa to solve our needs and never feel dependent on the Americans and Europeans to solve the problems which by the way are caused by our leaders. @OgbeniAyotunde
