Depends what you mean by effective? Prayer to me is a conversation. Using the Lord’s Prayer as a model, we know we are to honor God, read His word, not cower to unbelievers, ask for deliverance so we do not revel in sin and then told to forgive others as God has forgiven us. That is an effective prayer and nowhere is there room for asking for riches, etc. and not to say God does not give, but He also takes away. It rains on the righteous and the sinful equally. Having money, health, or any other “blessing” does not mean you are better than your neighbor. Believers will face persecution, not because of anything but belief in The Promised Messiah.
