I have gotten used to living with daily blackouts in Nigeria. I have also gotten used to the fact that we will continue living with daily blackouts in 30 years. @OgbeniAyotunde

Do not loose home. Change will come ( coming) as in India. I remember blackouts 20 years ago too.

Brother Mukul our power situation is hopelessly entrenched

I thought the same of many things in the 1980s too. But Change came and how.

Sorry I mean hopelessly entrenched in generational corruption and a decayed infrastructure. You know we got electricity in 1895 four years after England

I think technology will change things. Solar Power to me seems the way out for countries like ours.

Brother you would think Solar is viable but it is not sustainable or affordable. You have the problem of disposing spent batteries.
Our best solution is biofuel were we can turn all our garbage to bio gas.

Solar is becoming increasingly cost effective. Batteries evolving too, lighter , cheaper and environment friendly too.

The Solar industry is running a large scale scam on unsuspecting Amerians.
Solar is not sustainable I believe hydrogen is the future, imagine you buy a car with a 5yr hydrogen fuel supply in your tank.

The first African billionaire was MKO Abiola who got the ITT contract to install telephones in every home in West Africa and parts of the Muddle East in the 70’s
Abiola became a philanthropic fool throwing money out the window like a drunken sailor and marrying as many women that cross his path.
When his money was running low he ran for president and supposedly won (you know politics is the only way in Nigeria you can make stupid money)
The military government of Sani Abacha took over and he was arrested he never made it out of prison. Abacha died under questionable circumstances and Abiola died a few days later in prison. Some say the CIA had a hand in it.
West Africa was able to survive with the invention of cellphone.
Lol so brother you are right we are waiting on technology again for stable electricity. Placing my bet on Tesla

When I was in school I remember a friend whose parents were Doctors and they lived in Lagos. Then I heard they had to move on to UK as living in Lagos was no longer feasible or was dangerous. I forget. It was around 1979.

In India we have an option of 100% Govt owned and various service providers. Airtel does have many faults but is far better than days I have seen of Govt . owned telephone systems.

Sometime last year Nigeria became the largest economy in Africa. Nigeria runs on a 2 market system. The government is run on 90% of the Net National Product.
Everyman for himself, you drill your own borehole for water and you produce your own electricity.
There is absolutely no social services.

That can be chaotic and boreholes may run dry.

The boreholes hardly run dry cause they drill very deep, as a matter of fact Indian companies do most of the drilling in Nigeria followed by the Chinese who are mostly into major construction projects. Those who can’t afford boreholes dig wells which tend to run dry.

How deep is the borehole in your house?

I think it’s between 3000-5000 ft

I am building my studio in Abuja close to Usuma Dam. The federal government is providing pipe borne water in the area, so I got my fingers crossed that the pipes will get to me by the time am done with construction so I don’t have to drill. The average price of a borehole is about $1500

Yes it is. On electricity do you know you buy your own poles and neighborhoods would buy their own transformers which automatically becomes the asset of the power company lol

Nigeria the largest producer of crude oil still imports petrol from abroad subsidized by the government cause we got no working refineries. Many individuals became billionaires on just this scam alone.

Tragic. Imagine India Imports 80% of Crude and yet exports finished products. Am convinced Indian models can turn around African woes too.
