I’ve read that amala is served in a soup. Is that correct? Is that what I am seeing here?
I really enjoy the pictures you post here – It is almost like being in Nigeria. Very educational for me.

Thanks Dennis, Amala (made from sun dried yams and ground into flour) is eaten with soup mostly Ewedu, Ogbono or Okra soup. In Nigeria it is called swallow, cause you make Amala into small ball sizes dip it in the soup and swallow it.

How does Amala taste? I think it would be a wonderful addition to American fall and Thanksgiving cuisine. Thanks for sharing!

In my community, there is a beautiful maketplace that features foods and items from all around the world, all locally owned shops. Many of the shops are owned by African families. I am going to have to ask for amala.

Is yam the same as purple yam? I know I can google it, but I think it would be better to ask somebody who knows the real thing.

Amala type of yam is not purple but white, but it undergo some stage and will be turn to powder before you can turn it into amala
