I once lived in a ‘modernized ‘ house during my service year at the Jos Museum…very cool and different… For me..it was a unique experience.

Some modern huts have all toilets, running water and kitchens in them. Although my own did not. It was just a room with electricity in it. I did a mosaic of colourful magazines papers as my wall paper. Went to a flea market to get a black rug. Went home to get a fridge, fan, a camp gas and other things..it is a pity, I don’t have any pictures to show.

It was a modern hut..but the floor was made of concrete…hence ,that was y I bought a rug. But in the traditional hut, it is made up of mud/clay which they clean periodically with by mixing red mud in water and cleaning with a rag. It makes it glow. My hut had a thatch roof that had special person who come once in two years, I learnt to rethatch it, they remove the decaying thatch and add fresh ones to the roof. They used a thick polythene to make a ceiling so as to prevent pieces of dry thatch from falling into the room…if the thatch roof are not kept in good shape..the lifespan of the hut is shortened …
