It is a known fact that politicians are lairs and thieves who work hard at washing their names clean of their sins by immortalizing themselves in false legacies. Goodluck Jonathan trends with that political culture of using titles, rewards and awards as political capital. One case in point is changing the name of one of Nigeria’s prestigious universities from the University of Lagos to MKO Abiola University. This was a political gambit by the President to appease and secure the Yoruba vote ahead of the Presidential elections. Chief MKO Abiola left a legacy of corruption that jives with the President’s longstanding ideology that stealing is not corruption.
Which brings me to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Way named after our current Minister of Finance who is immortalized in her own Way in Utako Abuja. One might ask what she has done to have her name immortalized on a Nigerian street. Well it is very simple she is the one in charge of helping the President steal public funds.
The election was postponed 6 weeks for the administration to defeat Boko Haram giving the President 6 weeks to do what he couldn’t in 6 years. A President with no military background directing a 6week asymmetric war, although we all know it is all a smokescreen to buy time to rig the elections.
Last week the President held a closed door meeting with his party (PDP) Governors (excluding the Governor of Borno State the most affected by Boko Haram) in the heels of an impending landslide loss at the polls, he begged the Governors for their assistance in winning and handed them 20billion Naira presumable to buy the peoples vote at 10,000naira a vote. How might you ask a sitting President is able to spend public funds to run his reelection campaign? The answer is in the Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Way.
American politicians immortalize thieves, pirates, slave masters and mass murderers naming their capital after Christopher Columbus a known pirate and thief now they are stuck with a history of lies. So as oppose to naming the capital the District of Harriet Tubman a woman who actually had an impact on American culture and civilization they chose a thief.
Do Goodluck Jonathan and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala know the name of the woman that sweeps her Way under the boiling sun with locally made brooms maybe she deserves to have that street named after her. The sign writer sure does not believe Ngozi deserves it because he spelt her name wrong – Ogbeni Ayotunde @ #JujuFilms
